half和twice不能用在比较级前面

She can walk three times further than you.

 

It was ten times more difficult than I expected.

 

请注意:在这种结构里不能用twicehalf

 

She's twice as lively as her sister.

她比她姐姐活跃一倍。

(不能说:…twice livelier…)

在概括性的话后面,尤其是用在all every no everything anybody nowhere whole等概括性的词后面,except后可以带for,也可以不带for。在其他情况下,我们通常用except for

 

I've cleaned all the rooms except (for) the bathroom.

(all后面用except也是可以的)

 

I've cleaned the house except for the bathroom.

(不能说:…except the bathroom)

 

Nobody came except (for) John and Mary.

(用在nobody的后面)

 

Except for John and Mary, nobody came.

(用在nobody的前面)

 

You couldn't hear anything except (for) the noise of Louise typing.

(not… anything后面用except也是可以的)

 

The house was quiet except for the noise of Louise typing.

(不能说:…except the bathroom)
