在概括性的话后面,尤其是用在all, every, no, everything, anybody, nowhere, whole等概括性的词后面,except后可以带for,也可以不带for。在其他情况下,我们通常用except for。
I've cleaned all the rooms except (for) the bathroom.
(在all后面用except也是可以的)
I've cleaned the house except for the bathroom.
(不能说:…except the bathroom)
Nobody came except (for) John and Mary.
(用在nobody的后面)
Except for John and Mary, nobody came.
(用在nobody的前面)
You couldn't hear anything except (for) the noise of Louise typing.
(在not… anything后面用except也是可以的)
The house was quiet except for the noise of Louise typing.
(不能说:…except the bathroom)
